Making Imitation Maple Syrup

Making Imitation Maple Syrup

There is no substitution for the real deal, but then again, not everyone has access to real maple syrup. Making your own imitation version is quick, easy and best of all: Very VERY inexpensive… plus it tastes better than mass produced versions you find in the supermarkets.

I’m not a big fan of maple syrup myself, but Kate makes a version that has been deemed “The best maple syrup ever!” by her children, so here it is:

You will need:

1 cup water

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup white sugar

1 teaspoon maple extract

1 teaspoon butter extract

Measure 1 cup of water

1 Cup of brown sugar

1 Cup of white sugar

Combine in a saucepan

Turn burner onto Medium-High

Stirring constantly, bring mixture to a full rolling boil for 3 minutes.

The mixture will be thickened.

Turn down the heat to medium.

Add 1 teaspoon of maple extract.

Add 1 teaspoon of butter extract.

Stir well and remove from heat.

Store in refrigerator or make a larger batch and can!  So easy and quick to make. You won’t pay the price for mass-produced syrup again!

Enjoy! Why not try your syrup on these homemade waffles?

I hope you try this recipe. Let me know if you do! I’d love to hear from you!
